WW II Angkhola kukri

WW II Angkhola kukri:
This is newly built by me base on WW II model and gave Angkhola version on this kukri. Before World War II, it is used to make in Dehradoon, in India. Hence it is also called Dehradoone too. It is slightly bigger, heavier and more curved than standard sized Khukuri, Service No. 1. The sight of this formidable Khukuri in the hands of the Gurkha soldiers was enough to bring the enemy at their wit's ends. The blade of this Khukuri is made from graded carbon steel mostly used in railway tracks. The sheath is made of Buffalo hide. The handle is full-tang (Panawal Angkhola) style. The blade is therefore visible all around the handle. The WW II Angkhola model is sort of in-between. The handle is comfortable, but the weight definitely brings it forward - that's intentional, and makes the kukri better at chopping. This Kukri comes with semi polish and two fuller (dui chira) which help to reduce the friction, weight and help for continue cutting. WWII are both suitable for heavy chopping. The WWII Angkhola runs a little lighter in weight for a given length, but with a thin spine. In my opinion the WWII is more suited for all-around use, while the WW II Angkhola is more of a dedicated heavy chopper. Bear in mind that these are made by hand with hand tools, so individual knives will vary even for a given model.

*Blade: 15” Long blade where 6 inches long handle added as additional. Overall length of the blade is 21 inches long. The spine of this kukri is 5cm from the bolster and 0.5cm at the tip of blade. I gave 3cm massive bevel and kukri comes with razor sharp. The weight of kukri is just 700 grams.

* Scabbard:  Cotton Covered Yak leather. The scabbard has ekpane(one loop) frogs which are leather loops used to attach to the belt.

 * Karda & Chakmak: There is only Karda available for this kukri as it would be work two in one system. Karda is small knife used of skinning animal hairs and no needed extra Chakmak for this kukri as Karda would be worked as chakmak for sharpening the Kukri blade in its blunt.

* Tang: Most common type of tang where the flat tang is triangular shaped having wider area at the blade portion and becomes narrower as it finishes towards the butt end. The tang goes all the way through the handle and secured tightly from the back by butt cap and keeper. Only the end or tail of the tang is visible from outside. Since the tang has an overall look of a rat’s tail it is called so.

*Material Used: Highly Graded Carbon Steel (car & jeep, truck suspense leaf spring, 5160) for blade. Water Buffalo lather for Scabbard (outside), rose wood for the handle, Pinewood for Scabbard (inside), White Metal and “Laha” (Traditional Nepalese glue which works for joining).

Since, all my stuff are hand-made, variances in size, weight wood color etc may well occur.
